Let’s talk about IMPACT!
A colleague asked me this recently and I've been thinking about it ever since. We use this word everywhere - at work, in our communities, in conversations about making a difference. But when you actually try to define it? It gets fuzzy fast.
Here's what I'm learning: Impact isn't one single thing.
The team at Daffodil helped me see it breaks down into three parts:
→ Behavior that changes
→ New ways to solve old problems
→ Measurable movement from where we started to somewhere better
But here's the tricky part - we all see impact differently.
Some people need the numbers. Others connect through stories.
Some focus on systemic transformation. Others want results today.
Some track every metric. Others trust what feels right.
All of those perspectives? Completely valid.
Maybe we've been doing it wrong by trying to make everyone measure impact the same way.
I’ve been thinking about impact in terms of Epic Philanthropy and our clients. We track what’s important to them. For some, that's tracking specific outcomes - number of lives changed, specific problems solved. For others, it's about whether their giving reflects their values and creates the change they want to see in the world.
We also help you evaluate the nonprofits you're considering by looking at their financial health, their track record, and whether they're positioned to use your funds effectively. We can also connect you with tools, like Daffodil, that can show you real-time impact data on how your donations are being used. The goal is clarity and confidence in your giving, not just a tax receipt.
The bottom line is impact measurement isn't about imposing someone else's metrics on your giving. It's about getting clear on what you want to accomplish, choosing partners who can deliver, and building feedback loops that show you whether it's working. That's what the EPIC Journey is designed to do.
